CRCF Carbon Storage Products × biobased construction

Under the EU Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Regulation (2024/3012), biobased construction materials with ≥35-yr in-use storage qualify as Carbon Storage Products (sink bucket c). The certification methodology routes biogenic carbon stored in the built environment as a removal. Aligned with the cascading-use principle codified in RED II Article 3(3) — long-life storage in materials sits above combustion for energy. The forthcoming EU Biomass Strategy is expected to restate this hierarchy.
